HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY

Hair transplantation is a minor surgical procedure performed on an outpatient basis in our fully equipped theaters. The Doctors at M.H.R. have performed nearly 10 000 hair transplants collectively and earned a well-deserved reputation as South Africa’s top hair loss clinic.

Two Types of Hair Transplant Surgery: FUE and FUT

Our Surgeons specialise in both surgical techniques called F.U.T. and F.U.E. Each surgery type holds much merit to individual suitable candidates. Let our Doctors guide you towards the correct surgery choice for you.

FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

FUE is a form of FUT. that uses Follicular Unit Extraction (recently called Excision) to harvest donor hair grafts. With FUE, grafts are extracted individually from the donor area using a small ‘punch”. Individual follicles or groups of follicles are removed directly from the donor area without cutting a strip. The grafts are then transplanted into areas where the patient desires more hair to create a natural-looking hairline or add density to thinning areas.

Compared to FUT, this procedure is less invasive with less post-operative discomfort and faster healing. FUE is the right choice for athletes and younger candidates that may wish to shave their hair at some point.

Experienced & Skilled FUE Surgeons

The surgeons at M.H.R. have spent the last few years researching the various F.U.E. techniques. In our opinion, the best method – and by a large margin, is the automated power punch. Doctor Ryan have built up thousands of F.U.E. surgery hours at Medical Hair Restoration and developed immense knowledge and skill in this field

At M.H.R, our medical doctors specialise in both F.U.T and F.U.E hair transplant surgery.

FUT HAIR TRANSPLANT

FUT means Follicular Unit Transplant. In short, a strip of hair-bearing skin is removed from your head’s back and/or sides where there is usually dense hair. This site is then sutured closed. Next, the donor hair is dissected into tiny grafts containing two to three hairs. The grafts are then placed into tiny slits in your recipient area. Your body’s natural “glue” will anchor the grafts in place within minutes.

Be patient as full results will only be apparent eight months to one year later, although several patients see a significant difference much quicker. The surgery may result in a hairline scar from where the stip was removed. By leaving hair in this area at least 1.5cm long, the scar should not be visible.

This type of hair transplant remains the surgery of choice amongst most ethnic hair patients at Medical Hair Restoration. FUT is also a very effective transplant method for patients suffering from severe balding. FUT requires an exceptionally skilled and experienced surgeon.

At M.H.R, our medical doctors specialise in both F.U.T and F.U.E hair transplant surgery.

What does a hair transplant cost in South Africa?

Hair Transplant costs vary from person to person and typically range from R30 000 upwards.

Hair transplant surgery rarely costs more than R60 000 for individuals suffering from severe balding although a second procedure may be necessary for improved density.

Remember that your scalp can only handle a certain number of grafts transplanted per centimetre – so do not be tempted by cheap surgeries offering thousands of grafts transplanted in one surgery.

Doctors Larry Gershowitz and Ryan Jankelowitz perform hair transplants on a near-daily basis at MHR Cape Town earning them thousands of surgery hours only focussed on hair.
