Follicular ReGener-8 (FR-8)
At Medical Hair Restoration, we know that having thinning hair is nothing to be ashamed of, but that some people would like to counter it regardless. That’s why we offer the FR-8 Treatment. This cutting-edge method is proving to be highly effective when it comes to non-surgical hair replacement.
What’s involved with Follicular ReGener-8 (FR-8)?
This simple procedure is quick and painless. Our specialists take only 120 millilitres of your blood and put it into a highly sophisticated centrifuge. This piece of equipment separates the protein-rich platelets from the other components in your blood. These are then injected straight into the sparse area, stimulating regrowth and repair.
There are multiple advantages to this treatment, including:
- No down time – It only takes about an hour to treat someone using FR-8. What’s more, no recovery period is needed.
- Relatively quick results – This procedure can take up to three months to reflect but many patients have shown immediate improvement in hair growth and thickening.
- Post-surgery friendly – People who’ve had hair-replacement operations can use this treatment to speed up the growth process.
- No tests needed – The blood used is your own, eliminating compatibility issues and relieving concerns of not having a matching type.
- Long-lasting effect – The results of this procedure are enduring, however patients need to return every three to four months for booster treatments.
FR-8 is not only effective for people with genetic balding but also patients who have medical conditions such as Alopecia areata (AA) and Alopecia universalis (AU). For the best effect, it should be used in combination with other transplant procedures. Also, unlike surgery, this procedure can be done without the worry of severe side-effects or allergic reactions.
At Medical Hair Restoration, we have researched the most effective ways to combat hair loss, and we highly recommend the FR-8 Treatment. Our well-trained specialists assess each client individually and recommend the ideal way forward for you. Regardless of your unique situation, we have a solution to match your requirements.
SMP, or (sub-dermal) scalp micro pigmentation, is a hair loss treatment that gives the appearance of hair.
It is a technique that involves depositing very small amounts of pigment under the skin (sub-dermal) where the hair loss has occurred. When done correctly, this creates the illusion of many healthy hair follicles over the affected area. It is extremely effective in camouflaging scars, reducing the “see-through” appearance of diffusely thinning hair and treating large areas of baldness in those wanting to keep their head shaved/close-cropped.
Alopecia Areata (AA), the second most common form of hair loss, can occur at any age and affects men and women equally. The disease usually causes hair loss on the scalp, but some patients also experience facial and body hair loss with devastating consequences, particularly in children. Currently, there are no known treatments that can completely restore hair.
Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) researchers published the results of a promising pilot trial in September 2016 and bring with them renewed hope for people with Alopecia Areata (AA).
The initial, ‘accidental’ discovery of this JAK inhibitor’s potential for promoting hair regrowth came about when Yale University was investigating Tofacitinib as a treatment for plaque psoriasis. The patient they were treating also happened to have Alopecia Universalis and had not grown any hair in seven years, yet at the end of the seven month trial, his hair had fully regrown.
JAK inhibitor treatment specifically targets the enzymes inside hair follicles which are responsible for maintaining their dormant state (telogen phase) in cases of AA. In doing so, they stimulate the follicles to move out of the telogen phase and back into active growth (anagen phase).
Current research has shown that applying the JAK inhibitors topically (directly to the skin) results in a rapid onset of the anagen phase and subsequent hair growth.
Lumigan eye drops 300mcg/ml is used to treat hypotrichosis, or eyelash growth that is insufficient. Lumigan eye drops contain bimatoprost, a synthetic analogue (mimic) of a naturally occurring chemical called prostaglandin, which is thought to be involved in hair growth and works by increasing the length of the active hair growth phase. Lumigan eye drops can help you grow eyelashes that are longer, fuller and darker.
How should Lumigan be used for growing eyelashes?
You should use your Lumigan eye drops 300mcg/ml once nightly, by applying to the base of the upper eyelashes of each eye. (An applicator is not supplied but a very fine eyeliner brush is suitable) Do not apply to the lower lid. Also avoid touching other areas with Lumigan eye drops, as this may result in unwanted hair growth. Before applying your Lumigan eye drops, ensure that your face is clean and makeup and contact lenses are removed. If you are using an eyeliner brush as an applicator, ensure that it is clean before each application. Place one drop of Lumigan close to the tip of your brush and immediately draw the brush across the skin of the upper eyelid margin where the eyelashes meet the skin, starting from the inner part of your lash line to the outer part of your lash line. Any extra solution should be blotted with a tissue. Should any Lumigan solution get into your eye, there is no need to rinse out the eye. This will not harm the eye. You may reinsert your contact lenses 5 minutes after application of the Lumigan. To avoid contamination by bacteria, ensure that the tip of the bottle or brush does not come into contact with your fingers or any other surface. You should begin to see results within 8 weeks with maximum eyelash growth by 12-16 weeks. If you stop using your Lumigan eye drops, your eyelashes will return to their original condition within a few weeks or months. If you are using Lumigan for reducing your intraocular pressure or if you have glaucoma, you should not use Lumigan eye drops for eyelash growth.
When should Lumigan not be used?
You should not use Lumigan if you:
- are allergic to bimatoprost or any of the ingredients in Lumigan eye drops
- are pregnant, intend to become pregnant or breast feeding
- have liver, kidney or respiratory disease
- are wearing contact lenses; you should remove your contacts and replace them after using Lumigan eye drops
How long should you use Lumigan?
You should use your Lumigan eye drops continually for at least 12-16 weeks for maximum eyelash growth and you will begin to see results within 8 weeks. If you stop using your Lumigan eye drops, your eyelashes will return to their original condition, within a few weeks or months.
Missed dose of Lumigan
If you miss a dose of Lumigan eye drops use it as soon as you remember on that day. If you miss a day do not use the drops twice on the next day i.e. a double dose.
How should Lumigan be stored?
You should store your Lumigan eye drops in a cool place where the temperature stays below 25°C and always replace the top on the bottle to prevent contamination. Discard the bottle of Lumigan eye drops 4 weeks after opening.
