Scalp Laxity Exercises
It is vitally important that would-be hair transplant patients educate themselves as to any contraindications that may exist, in terms of their hair and scalp, before booking their hair transplant surgery. Scalp laxity is one such consideration, and has been conclusively proven to have significant influence on the success of scalp surgery.
There are significant resources available online and in print media, that will help to instruct patients in daily scalp laxity exercises. There are also a number of scalp treatments that may aid in improving the flexibility of the scalp before surgery. Any reputable surgeon will make an assessment of your scalp laxity during consultation, and should advise as to whether or not exercises will be required.
Why is scalp laxity so important though? Firstly, a high level of laxity will allow more grafts to be harvested in a single session. This reduces the number of surgeries that will be required to complete the process, reducing stress on the scalp. Fewer surgeries also mean a quicker total recovery time, meaning patients get to start enjoying their new hair sooner. Scalp laxity has also been proven to influence the size and appearance of scars. Good scalp laxity translates to less visible scarring and therefore a better overall appearance post operation.
Scalp laxity exercises are easy to perform, do not require any major physical exertion and take up just five minutes, twice a day. Even patients with good natural laxity can benefit from them. Here is one such exercise.
- Clasp your hands and place them slightly above the bony ridge that runs laterally (horizontally) across the back of your head.
- Pull your hands forward toward your forehead, moving your scalp forward. Press hard enough against your head to ensure that your scalp moves and your hands don't simply slip over your hair.
- Perform this exercise for 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening.
