Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP

Hair loss can affect anyone at any age.

In our society the lack of having a full head of hair cannot be overstated. If you’re one of the millions of men and women living with thinning hair or hair loss, we’ve got some good news for you.

Until now, hair loss treatment for men and women has been limited to medications such as Regaine (Minoxidil 5% Solution) and Finpecia (1mg Oral tablet), or surgical hair transplantation.

Now there’s a new and minimally invasive option available, that is showing effectiveness for the treatment of hair loss and thinning hair in both men and women.

This cutting edge and exciting natural treatment is called Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP.

Medical Hair Restoration Clinic is excited to offer its unique new protocol, the Follicular Regener-8 Hair Loss Program (FR-8) as the “Angel” to the rescue.

Over the past few years, cellular regenerative therapy – in the form of growth factors (GF’s), cell multiplication, and stem cells (ASC’s) – have been the hottest area of potential innovation in many areas of medicine. Hair transplantation is no exception, and we are at the forefront in developing these applications.

Imagine my delight as a doctor who has been involved in the treatment of hair loss for almost 20 years, when I discovered this new application known as PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy. This technique not only reverses hair loss (alopecia), but can actually stimulate the growth of new hair.

I am very excited to offer this breakthrough treatment to both male and female patients who suffer from hair loss and at a huge cost savings when compared to the same treatment offered overseas.

image002PRP is an exciting non-surgical option for patients who require stimulation and regeneration of hair for a number of hair loss conditions including Andro-Genetic Alopecia, Alopecia Areata and generalized diffuse thinning.

Follicular Regener-8 Hair Loss Program refers to the use of a patient’s own platelet cells and plasma from their blood to stimulate hair growth. Platelets are rich in various growth factors (GF’s) and cytokines (biologically active molecules) that have the ‘potential’ to stimulate hair growth.

Recent scientific research provides the medical community with new understandings of wound and tissue healing. These scientific studies have shown PRP to be a 100% safe, all-natural medical procedure performed in less than 60 minutes as an “out-patient” procedure.

PRP is finding its way into many parts of medicine including orthopaedic medicine (i.e. tendon injuries) as well as numerous other applications in sports medicine.

Growing scientific data already existed on the use of PRP in sports medicine, (Tiger Woods has had it injected into his knees and ankles), orthopaedic surgery and dental surgery and a number of other medical and surgical specialties to enhance tissue repair, rejuvenation and healing after surgical procedures. Especially for skincare (Kim Kardashian has had it injected into her skin as a Vampire Face lift)

NOT all PRP are considered Equal. Studies into its clinical efficiency of PRP are not conclusive and one of the main reasons for this is that different PRP preparations are used, eliciting different responses and different concentrations of cells and thus cannot be compared. Platelet quantification and the Growth factor (GF) content definition must be defined in order to understand molecular mechanisms behind PRP regenerative strength.
Since the effectiveness of PRP depends on the CONCENTRATION OF CELLS PRODUCED, the FOLLICULAR REGENER-8 PROGARM is a unique PRP protocol which differs from the other clinics.

  • Thanks to our specialized centrifugation technique using the FDA approved Closed system Harvest Smart Prep2®, the total amount of platelets extracted is at least 5 – 8 times the base line concentrations.
  • The whole amount of plasma (and not only a part of it) is exploited.
  • The collection of the whole amount of the white phase (“Buffy coat”) provides additional benefits; apart from the platelets, we also extract the white blood cells which are scientifically proven to produce and release cytokines and Growth factor (GF’s) and also contain high level of CD34+ Cells (Adult Stem Cells).

THE THERAPEUTIC RESULTS OF THE PRP THERAPY IS DEPENDENT ON THE CONCENTRATION OF THE CELLS

Blood is withdrawn from a patient’s arm by syringe (60ml – 120ml), Similar to drawing blood for any laboratory procedure.

(blood donors donate 500mls)

image004The blood is placed into a highly specialized collection device / container and is placed in a computerized centrifuge (Harvest Smart Prep2®) and spun for 14 minutes at different speeds.
The centrifuging “spins down” the red and white blood cells and platelets and concentrates them at various levels in the patented collection device. Blood plasma that is rich in platelets, is drawn off from the appropriate level. FR-8 contains 4 to 8 times the number of platelets per cubic centimetre found in normal plasma.
With a little additional preparation the FR-8 is ready for application.

As part of the FOLLICULAR REGENER-8 PROGARM, Dr Larry Gershowitz will help answer your questions about the use of PRP in the treatment of hair loss.
